We’re terribly behind on this one, but we thought we’d link to The Tennesseean‘s interview with Derek about the reasons behind FreeDerekWebb.com and how it fits into his strategy. As they’re just about to the 60,000-download mark—or that’s where they were on Monday night when Derek showed Bryan and I the results—I’d say that it’s been successful … because sales of Mockingbird have increased.
For INO Records President Jeff Moseley, the word-of-mouth buzz that the giveaway has generated is as interchangeable as cold hard cash at this point in Webb’s career.
“This is emotional, relational currency that we’re trading for an album, as opposed to dollars and cents,” Moseley said. “We think ultimately that will turn into some type of monetary value.”

I received an email from you thanking me for participating in the free download of Mockingbird.
Unfortunately, I tried to get to download Mockingbird two or three times but was not able to get through the questionaire. My email must have been registered, though. When I tried to put the required emails in, they would not go in. The block for the list of emails stayed blank and when I tried to continue on to download Mockingbird, it would not let me do it. I sent an email to ask for help, but when I recieved a reply, the time limit ran out for downloading and the person did not know how to help me anyway. I know that Mockingbird would have been just wonderful and if there is any way I could download it, please let me know.

I would really love to have the “Mockingbird” album if possible! I now I’m late and that’s not good. But why not ask?
Please, if I’m not causing to much trouble wouldn’t you dare me for “Mockingbird”? After all isn’t christian music ment to be ministry, not industri? When I first heard that you gave away music I became happy! I began thinking on Steve Camp and Keith Green, what they have done. What fun it wouldn’t be with another artist who gave away his music! Then I understood that it was only one album you were supposed to offer free. Later on something more showed up. There was a “out-of-date” for this free offering. This out-of-date has already been, since way to long. Well, well… Do as you want, but I would be very thankful and glad if I got the album.
