Matthew Smith on Feedback

You may know Matthew Smith as a part of the Indelible Grace effort, or you may know his solo work. Tonight, he posted a run of tweets about Feedback, which will be released next Tuesday.

Here are SEVEN THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW about the new @ instrumental worship record, FEEDBACK:

@ IS A STRONG PRESCENCE. Her sense of melody is all over this record. And the musical partnership works seamlessly. #feedback

INSTRUMENTAL DOESN’T MEAN NO SINGING. Vocals are used as an instrument, with a good deal of singing, but without words. #feedback

CLASSICALLY COMPOSED DOESN’T MEAN CLASSICAL. Modern instrumentation, classically structured. Can't be confused with Mozart. #feedback

WORSHIP RECORD? IT’S A SOUNDTRACK. A soundtrack to prayer. If you're down w/ http://esv.to/1thes5.17, it’s a soundtrack to life. #feedback

IT'S NOT A THROWAWAY SIDE PROJECT. Don’t skip it because it’s not a standard pop release. Derek's not a standard pop artist. #feedback

IT’S A SIGN OF THINGS TO COME. He's using programming to create expansive sonic landscapes without budget constraints. Brilliant. #feedback

IT WILL OFFEND YOU. It’s art that invites you to engage, not just consume. These days, that's more scandalous than swear words. #feedback

Derek sent me a download link for Feedback on Saturday night, and I gave it a listen Sunday morning. I liked Matthew’s statement about it being “a soundtrack to prayer”. If you need encouragement for a long prayer/study session, wanting to get immersed in what you’re doing but have an audible cue for when you should complete, Feedback clocks in around 37 minutes.

I bought Feedback this morning precisely for the reason you suggested above, as a soundtrack to prayer. It’s just what I’ve been looking for. Well done again, Derek.
