The End is the Beginning… (Pt. 1)

“The beauty of you naming this ‘Stockholm Syndrome,’ I exclaimed to Derek, “is that all those haters out there could have stopped this train ride for themselves at anytime!”

As we sat next to Fort Sumner in Derek’s backyard we discussed the whole fiasco with the man who was one of about three folks driving the Stockholm Syndrome train. As things came out this thing got more and more beautiful. But I digress. Let’s go back to the beginning of the night.

Bejerot am Rutledge

So Derek will be playing a one-hour show at The Rutledge in Nashville on the 3rd of July. I’ll be there if I have to sleep in my car to hold my place in line. [Actually, I'll just go eat at the Mexican place next door. I've been to The Rutledge many a time at this point.]

Review of Derek in Souderton, PA

Kevin Davis writes on his blog about Derek’s show on Sunday in Souderton, PA.

Had I known Joe Bassett was going to open, I might have actually made the trek over to see the show. (Actually, it was a family picnic that prevented my attendance).

Art * Music * Justice Tour

If you’ve looked at the front of [derekwebb.net] in the last week, you’ve seen stuff about the Art * Music * Justice Tour. That tour will have:

  • Sara Groves
  • Brandon Heath
  • Charlie Peacock
  • Derek Webb
  • Sandra McCracken

For a little on the show, we talked to David McCollum:

As to this tour, the general concept of the night will be in support of IJM and Food for the Hungry, it will feature Sara as an emcee or sorts; then each of the artists will have their own time on stage to walk through their experiences in relation to the social justice and poverty issues addressed by each organization.

Dates are being booked from 18 Sep 2008 – 26 Oct 2008. A number of shows are already booked, but there are still slots available. The man to contact for booking is Bryan Myers of Creative Artists Agency.

If you want a banner for your Web site to support the tour, snag one. You’ll want to fix the URL to point at the Art * Music * Justice tour page on MySpace.

The Ampersand Tour

You’ve probably seen it in the sidebar or in our posts on SquarePegAlliance.net, but if not, here’s where Derek [and Sandra!] will tour The Ampersand EP, amongst other things, in the next few weeks:

And before anyone asks: yes, my recording gear and I will be at that Birmingham show. [You wanna drive me back from Birmingham that night? Cool!]

Derek With Caedmon’s

  1. Hey, want to hear what Derek’s solo sets with Caedmon’s sounded like on this tour? We’ve got a recording from the Dyersburg show for you to check out.
  2. Many folks have asked us, “Is this the last hurrah of Derek with Caedmon’s Call?” I think the best answer for that is, “We don’t know, but I don’t think they know, either.” All I know is that they looked like they were having a heck of a lot of fun playing music together, and we all know that Caedmon’s just doesn’t play that many shows anymore. If you ask me to put a prediction down in print and sign my name to it, I’d bet on both another record and another full tour. As to whether Derek will play with the band any more this year, who knows? When we know, though, we’ll tell ya. Cool? Cool.

Derek Webb and Donald Miller

A few years ago I made a trip down to Birmingham, AL to hear Derek Webb play and Don Miller speak. It was a great evening, and I’m excited to announce that it’s going to happen again.

More Cancellations

Derek’s really sick. The NYC show on Friday is being postponed, and I doubt they’ll play Saturday in PA at this point [although Derek hasn't said that they won't]. Also, them being sick may delay the pre-order on The Ampersand EP. Patience and understanding are requested. That, or I’m sending Derek to come and cough all over you.

And now….

Now, Wednesday’s show in Vienna, VA will be sans Derek as well. That’s right. No more show. Comfort one another in this time of woe and get ready to rub it in next time you see him ;)

No Sandra on Wednesday

Wednesday’s show in Vienna, VA was supposed to have Derek’s better half out with him, but with some conflicts that have come up, she won’t be there. She’ll be at the shows on Friday and Saturday, though. Contain your disappointment and give Derek a hug at the show if you go, ’cause he’ll be missing her worse than you are. Promise. :)

Tuesday: Actually, now they’re all sick. So there’s no show on Wednesday.
