Notes from the Road
sat 5:19 am
columbia, missouri
wow. i'm so, so sorry that it's been so long between entries. i hate to go more than a day without writing. the last week few days have
been pretty hectic. we left houston last monday morning at about 6 am. we headed for austin to get our sound system, and then to baton
rouge to pick up the ridgely boys. our first show was in kankakee, illinois at olivet nazarene university. we arrived there at about 3
or so in the morning and set up and soundchecked. we went out and got some food and stayed up straight through to play at their 9 am
mandatory chapel. it was a real blast, but we were real tired. after we played we headed to our hotels to sleep, and did i ever sleep.
we got some rest, got clean, and did a concert in the same room that night for olivet. it was really encouraging because the concert
that we did that night obviously wasn't mandatory, but the room filled up and was really responsive to everything. we met some really
cool folks out there. the thing is that our bus broke down in kankakee, and it had to cruise to indiana to get repaired, so we had an
extra day to spend in the metropolis of kankakee. it was actually really convenient because we were within walking distance of a mall,
and many eating establishments (namely, there was a 'steak & shake' right next door, which totally rocks). the next day we got up early
and headed to wheaton to play upstairs at 'true tunes.' the people working there were so helpful and cool. we've always loved doing
business with those folks. they have some of the coolest music in that place. i had to spend almost all of my per diem in order to get
all of the stuff that i found. i believe that they have a web site up and running now, so you might get out and search for it. anything
that you're looking for, they either have it or can order it. we were so encouraged by the number of people that showed for the show. we
can't wait to get back out there. we had to leave pretty much right after the show in order to head to missouri. i'm sitting in the
little dressing room right now writing this. danielle is sitting right next to me emailing as well. we look like total nerds back here.
ridgely is out there playing. they are absolutely incredible. they are truly some of my favorite people that i know. we're so fortunate
to have them out on the road with us. it's been unnerving to not be able to write (in the journal, i mean). i suppose that nothing
really exciting has happened, but it's a good thing because trying to find time to sleep is becoming harder and harder. i always write
at night, so there's been some real competition going on. i'm going to be home in a day or so (but only for 24 hours) because we're
playing metro Bible study in houston, which we haven't been to in quite a while. playing metro really makes us feel like we're home, so
it'll be really good to do that. if you're in houston, come on by first baptist church at about 7:30 pm and say hello. i have many
things that i've been wanting to write about, so i'm determined to write as much as possible in the next week. i beg you to trust me
again that i'll write every couple of days. it's been good to get back to talk to you. we're gonna go play, but i'll talk to you soon. i
hope that all is well.
take care & God bless-
derek
