the strong fend for the weak

we are fighting for the victims, i mean survivors of struggle
we swim in this muddle puddle trying to get away from the dirt
but it hurts when we don’t see the system work for those who are trying
to make it day to day
so we pray and watch, i mean watch and pray
but we are also called to shelter the homeless, feed the poor,
speak truth to power and protest war
climb a bit higher never retire or give up on visions to which we aspire
we believe in a brighter day
so we pray and watch, i mean watch and pray
and stay in the struggle for justice
stay in the struggle for peace
we invest in better school systems, we are fighting the beast
it’s not just us restoring justice, we follow the prince of peace
so we shout ‘stop the violence, stop the violence, shatter the silence!’
‘cause we cannot let this be
addressing concerns and powers and principalities
fighting poverty, realizing the beloved community
and sojourners teach, advocate and train
and allow us to maintain a sense of purpose rather than disdain
on life’s short train we must follow the pursuit of truth
and be of useful fruit
or what we claim is in vain
